As Chief Executive Officer, Josh leads MidCap Financial’s Investment Committee and is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the business.
Josh has held various roles of increasing responsibility since MidCap’s inception and leverages more than 22 years of expertise in direct lending and business strategy. Prior to becoming CEO, Josh served as Co-President and Chief Investment Officer, where he was integrally involved in the evaluation and oversight of every investment made by MidCap Financial. Josh also led the Life Sciences and Technology Lending group at MidCap Financial, overseeing the successful deployment of more than $3.5 billion of debt investments to emerging life sciences and technology companies.
Previously, Josh was Head of Underwriting for life sciences transactions at Merrill Lynch Capital Healthcare Finance and served as an Engagement Manager in the life sciences consulting practice at Leerink Partners, where he advised biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical device manufacturers on product strategy, business development, and M&A due diligence. Josh holds a PhD in human genetics and molecular biology from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he published 11 research articles in leading scientific and medical journals. He also holds a BS from the State University of New York at Syracuse University and an MS in biology from Vanderbilt University.
