Steve is a co-founder of MidCap Financial and serves as Co-Executive Chairman. He brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in direct lending, grounded in a background in corporate and M&A law and accounting.

As Co-Executive Chairman of MidCap Financial, Steve focuses on asset selection and management, talent acquisition and development, and the maintenance of the company’s efficient, welcoming, and diverse culture in a period of rapid and challenging changes in the workplace.

Prior to co-founding MidCap Financial, Steve served as the Chief Credit Officer for Merrill Lynch Capital, and before that held various leadership positions with GE Capital Healthcare Commercial Finance and its predecessor businesses, Heller Healthcare Finance and Healthcare Financial Partners. Before transitioning to the Direct Lending industry, Steve spent the majority of his 10-year legal career at Dewey Ballantine. Steve holds a JD from Boston University School of Law and a BA from Franklin & Marshall College and was licensed as a CPA upon completing the first two years of his career at PWC in New York City prior to entering law school.
